“Blue Velvet” Hills Fairburn Agate

“Blue Velvet” is named for the appearance of this specimen, as it has a velvety texture when viewing it. This may possibly be caused by a microscopic layer of druzy quartz that formed between the layers of this agate at some time during it’s formation. This is a nice thick chunk of Agate, showing a full face on both front and back as well as one side of this specimen. It has Blue/Grey & White bands with the typical brown bands around the outside edge of the specimen. This beauty hails from the south central black hills of south dakota. It is banded to the center tho the bands become wider as they approach the center. This lovely chunk of agate would make a nice specimen or cutting rough.
